If you've ever captured a video on your cell phone or camera, you know that it may display itself at the wrong angle when you try to play it. In other cases, you might have shot the video this way intentionally for a portrait or landscape effect. Our guide will show you how to rotate a video in VLC Media Player. How to Flip or Rotate a Video in VLC Find VLC Media Player in your list of programs or type "VLC" into the search bar to locate it quickly. Open the program. Go to the "Tools" tab at the top menu and open it. Click on "Effects and Filters" from within this tab to open that window. Use the "CTRL E" shortcut to open this menu directly if you wish. Go to the "Video Effects" tab from within this menu. Click on the "Geometry" tab from here. Select the unmarked check box next to the word "Transform" in this menu. Rotate the video by a fixed number of degrees. Some options you can choose are 90, 180, or 270 degrees. Flip the video either horizontally or vertically using the appropriate boxes. Choose the "Transpose" option to rotate the video 270 degrees in the opposite direction and flip it horizontally. Use "Anti-transpose" to flip the video 90 degrees clockwise and flip it horizontally. Select the "Rotate" box under the "Transform" menu to rotate the video by a specific number of degrees if you wish. Keeping these settings will rotate new videos you open. The steps below will show you how to rotate a video in VLC permanently without affecting other videos. Navigate to VLC Media Player's menu and click on the "Media" tab. Go down to the "Convert/Save" option and click on it. Open this menu directly using the "CTRL R" shortcut if you wish. Click the "Add" button. This will open a new window for your computer files. Browse through the media files stored on your computer to find the video you want to rotate. Add this video to the VLC box. Click on the "Settings" option in the Convert box. Navigate to "Video Codec" and go to the "Filters" tab. Activate the filter and click the "Save" button. Press "Play" to begin the permanent rotation process. If you encounter any problems when trying to rotate a video permanently, make sure you chose a destination for the file before you started rotating it.
